Strengthening Regional Tourism: GOTA International’s Leadership Role in NATOP
The growth of tourism in West Africa depends not only on beautiful destinations but also on strong institutions, industry collaboration, and visionary leadership. As tourism continues to emerge as a major driver of economic development across the continent, professional associations play a vital role in shaping policies, promoting best practices, and creating opportunities for collaboration among tourism stakeholders.
One of the leading organizations championing this mission in Nigeria is the Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP).
What is NATOP?
Founded to promote professionalism and sustainable growth within Nigeria’s tourism industry, NATOP is the umbrella association representing licensed tour operators across the country. The association works to strengthen the capacity of tour operators, advocate for industry-friendly policies, encourage domestic and international tourism, and foster partnerships that position Nigeria as a competitive tourism destination.
Through training, networking events, advocacy, strategic partnerships, and industry engagement, NATOP has become one of the most influential voices in Nigeria’s travel and tourism sector. In 2026, the association also marked an important milestone with the commissioning of its first National Secretariat in Lagos, reinforcing its commitment to professionalism and institutional growth
Building Stronger Tourism Partnerships Across West Africa
Tourism today extends beyond national borders. Travelers increasingly seek multi-country experiences, creating opportunities for neighbouring countries to work together in developing regional tourism products.
Collaboration between Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, and other West African nations has become increasingly important in promoting cultural tourism, heritage sites, festivals, business travel, and cross-border tour packages.
Professional associations such as NATOP provide an important platform for encouraging these collaborations by bringing together tour operators, destination marketers, government agencies, and private sector stakeholders to share knowledge and build stronger regional partnerships.
GOTA International’s Commitment to Regional Tourism
As a company dedicated to connecting people, destinations, and opportunities across Africa, GOTA International has consistently supported initiatives that strengthen tourism cooperation within the region.
Over the years, GOTA International has worked with tourism boards, international travel partners, educational institutions, airlines, hospitality providers, and tourism organizations to promote travel, facilitate cultural exchange, and improve tourism connectivity between Benin, Togo, Nigeria, and other international destinations.
This commitment aligns closely with NATOP’s vision of promoting professional standards, sustainable tourism development, and stronger collaboration throughout the travel industry.
A New Leadership Responsibility
During the NATOP Annual General Meeting held in Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, Lagos, a new executive committee was elected to guide the association’s next phase of growth. The leadership team is expected to continue strengthening Nigeria’s tourism industry through improved collaboration, advocacy, professional development, and destination promotion.
As part of this new leadership, Mrs. Olanma Alvanis Ojukwu, Founder and Group Managing Director of GOTA International, was elected National Financial Secretary of the Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP). Her appointment reflects years of active contribution to tourism development, regional collaboration, and international travel services across West Africa.
For GOTA International, this is more than an individual achievement—it represents an opportunity to contribute to the advancement of the tourism industry while strengthening partnerships between Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and the wider African travel community.
Looking Ahead
The future of African tourism depends on collaboration, innovation, and strong leadership. As regional travel continues to grow, organizations like NATOP and companies like GOTA International have an important role to play in connecting destinations, supporting tourism businesses, and creating meaningful travel experiences across borders.
GOTA International remains committed to promoting responsible tourism, supporting industry partnerships, and contributing to initiatives that strengthen West Africa’s position as a vibrant and connected tourism destination.
